Aftercare

Tattoo Aftercare

*I use a product called Derm Shield, a medical grade second skin that essentially replaces traditional aftercare. It is applied after the tattoo is finished and typically stays on for up to five nights. Derm Shield allows the tattoo to breathe fully while protecting it and keeping the perfect moisture balance. In most cases the tattoo is healed once the Derm Shield comes off, but there may be another day or two of peeling skin. There will be another week or so of the skin appearing dry, or even flaky.

  • Days 1-5: Keep under the second skin wrap. If you see excessive demarcations, send me a photo. I’ll gladly re-direct you if I see something of concern. Take wrap off after night five.
  • Days 5-15: Take off wrap after night five. Tattoo will peel. Don’t itch! Gently wash tattoo with simple bar soap TWICE daily. Make sure area is completely dry, then apply a light layer of moisturizer.
  • Days 15-30: Tattoo appears fully healed, but deeper areas of skin continue to recover. Continue to moisturize, switching to an SPF if in ANY amount of sunlight.
  • MOISTURIZER: Do not use any Vaseline or Petroleum based lotions! The open wound cannot break these down naturally, creating a blurry healed tattoo. A product I suggest is After Inked lotion (Other good options are daily moisturizing CeraVe or Lubriderm).
IMPORTANT
Avoid direct sunlight for at least three weeks.
Don’t submerge tattoo underwater.
Don’t itch or pick at the tattooed area.
Avoid tight clothing.
Check wrap daily for irritation marks and to make sure wrap isn’t compromised.
DON’T leave wrap on longer than five nights.
